XM (operated by the Trading Point group) is one of the longest-running retail forex and CFD brokers, founded in 2009 and reportedly serving more than 15 million clients across 190+ countries. It pairs a very low barrier to entry — a $5 minimum deposit on its main CFD accounts — with multi-regulator oversight (CySEC, ASIC, DFSA, FSCA and an offshore FSC Belize entity). For most traders the headline draw is the combination of MT4/MT5, a deep education programme, and accessible account types. That accessibility comes with the usual offshore-broker caveats. The tightest spreads and the raw-spread Zero account aren't uniformly available across all entities, the very high leverage (up to 1:1000) only applies to clients onboarded under the offshore entity — EU/CySEC clients are capped at 1:30 — and bonuses are region-dependent.
IG is one of the oldest and most established names in online trading. Founded in London in 1974 and now a publicly listed company on the London Stock Exchange, it has grown into a heavyweight broker offering more than 17,000 markets across forex, indices, shares, commodities, bonds and more. For traders who value scale, regulation and a deep platform ecosystem, IG sits firmly in the premium tier. That scale is also the trade-off. IG is not the cheapest broker for active forex scalpers, its standard pricing is built around spreads rather than ultra-low raw spreads plus commission, and the sheer breadth of products and account options can feel overwhelming to a beginner. It is a strong all-rounder rather than a specialist — best suited to traders who want a trusted, well-regulated home for a wide range of markets.
Pepperstone is one of the most established names in online forex and CFD trading, founded in Melbourne in 2010 and regulated across eight jurisdictions — including ASIC, the FCA and CySEC. It pairs genuinely low Razor-account pricing (raw spreads from 0.0 pips plus commission) with the widest serious platform line-up in the industry: MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView. It suits active traders and scalpers who want tight pricing on familiar platforms, though which entity (and protections) you fall under depends on your country, and it does not onboard US retail clients.
